Why Do Children Have Diarrhea In The Summer?

Kids often suffer from diarrhea during the hot summer months. What causes this problem? Find out here!

Diarrhea is an uncomfortable condition that affects millions of people every year. It occurs when there is too much watery stool in the intestines. The cause of diarrhea varies depending on the age of the child. In infants, diarrhea is usually caused by bacteria or viruses. In older kids, it may be due to food allergies or other medical problems.

When it's too hot outside, kids sweat more than usual

Sweating is one of the body's natural ways to cool itself down. However, when children sweat excessively, it can lead to dehydration. This happens because sweating removes fluid from the body. If the child does not replace the lost fluids, he or she will become dehydrated. Dehydration can make children feel tired, irritable, and even sick.

Sweaty skin makes them feel even hotter

One reason why kids might develop diarrhea during the summer is due to excessive sweating. Their bodies lose more water through sweating than they normally would. As a result, they need to drink more liquids to stay hydrated.

They may also have an upset stomach because they're dehydrated

Another possible cause of diarrhea is dehydration. Dehydration occurs when the body loses too much fluid. This happens when children do not drink enough fluids or when they consume too much liquid.

And when they get sick, their bodies produce extra mucus to help keep them hydrated

If your child has diarrhea, make sure he drinks plenty of water. Also, try to avoid giving him foods with high sugar content such as juice, candy, cookies, and soda. These foods will only dehydrate him further. Instead, give him plain water, fruit juices, and other healthy beverages.

This extra mucus can cause diarrhea

Mucous is an excess of fluid in the body. It helps protect the intestines by coating them and preventing bacteria from entering. However, when there is too much mucus, it can lead to diarrhea.
