    What Is an Otitis Media?

An otitis media is inflammation of the middle ear caused by infection. It usually occurs when bacteria enter through the Eustachian tube into the middle ear. This happens because the Eustachian tubes connect the middle ear with the back of the nasal cavity.

    Causes of Otitis Media

Otitis media is often treated with antibiotics. However, some people develop an allergy to these medications. If this happens, doctors will prescribe other medicines instead.

    Symptoms of Otitis Media

Otitis media is usually caused by bacteria getting into the middle ear through the eardrum. This infection can cause pain, fever, and hearing loss. It can also lead to complications such as fluid buildup in the middle ear, swelling of the eardrum, and even damage to the inner ear.

    Treatment Options

There are several treatment options available for otitis media. These include antibiotics, antihistamines, decongestants, and steroids. Antibiotics are often used to treat acute otitis media (AOM). AOM is an inflammation of the middle ear that occurs when there is an infection.

    Prevention Tips

If your child has recurrent episodes of ear infections, he or she should see his or her doctor as soon as possible. This will help ensure that the condition does not become more serious.
