Varicocele is the enlargement and varicose-like swelling of the veins surrounding the testicles. It is more commonly seen in the left testicle. This condition causes dysfunction in the veins that carry blood to the testicles, leading to these veins becoming enlarged, resembling varicose veins. Varicocele is known as one of the factors that can lead to infertility in men because it can increase the temperature in the testicles, negatively affecting sperm production and quality.
Symptoms:
- Pain in the testicles
- Swelling in the testicles or noticeable enlargement of the veins
- Shrinking of the testicles (atrophy)
- Infertility
Treatment Methods:
Observation and monitoring:
If the varicocele is mild and does not cause any symptoms, treatment may not be necessary. The doctor may monitor the condition with regular check-ups.
Surgical treatment (Varicocelectomy):
If there is pain, infertility, or shrinkage of the testicles, surgical intervention may be required. In this operation, called a varicocelectomy, the enlarged veins are tied off, and normal blood flow is restored.
